Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development. USIF V. Phases 1 and 2

Phase 2: cities of Kyiv and Lviv.
Phase 1 of USIF V Project purpose is creation of housing for internally displaced persons (hereinafter – IDPs) and improvement of social infrastructure of schools, kindergartens and social institutions in the communities hosting IDPs. 9 million euros are allocated for this Project Phase.
The project portfolio contains 35 objects, including 16 housing facilities for IDPs, 10 schools, 6 preschool institutions and 3 boarding institutions. By the end of 2018 construction works at 22 objects (7 housing facilities for IDPs, 9 schools and 6 kindergartens) were accomplished. 133 IDPs were settled in restored buildings. About 13 thousand persons benefitted from renovation of schools and kindergartens made in the framework of the Project implementation. Apart from construction works, activities for integration and adaptation of IDPs in hosting communities are being taken. In the years 2017-2018 ‘Decent Labor’ and ‘Community Social Capital Development’ programs were implemented in particular. In order to exchange experience, a visit for representatives of the public, local authorities and self-employed IDPs from three eastern regions to Lviv region was organized. Other capacity building activities with participation of IDPs, representatives of local communities and authorities are being held.
The main priority of the phase 2 of the Project is creation of additional places for children, including IDPs’ children, in Kyiv and Lviv kindergartens through renovation of group premises. 5 million euros are allocated for this Project Phase.
44 kindergartens in Kyiv and 1 kindergarten in Lviv are covered by the Project. Apart from that, a hostel for IDPs is being renovated in Lviv.
98 group premises in 41 kindergartens, providing about 2300 new places for children, including IDPs children, were renovated by the end of the year 2018.
