Two vocational education institutions of Lviv region have become participants of the EU4Skills program
On July 8, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund, State Educational Institutions “Stryi Higher Vocational School № 34”, “Drohobych Higher Vocational School № 19”, and the Lviv Regional State Administration signed a memorandum to modernise educational institution infrastructure. Their cooperation will take place within the project "EU4Skills: Modernisation of Vocational Education and Training Infrastructure in Ukraine”, which is a component of the large-scale EU Program "EU4Skills: Better Skills for Modern Ukraine". The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German State Development Bank KfW. The memorandum was signed within the Ministry of Education and Science conference "Education of Opportunities: New Horizons of Vocational Education and Training in Ukraine".
"The European Union continues to support vocational education reform. We believe that the introduction of technologies and new tools in the institutions of the Lviv region is an important step to ensure quality teaching in the region’s institution,” commented Frederic Coene, Head of Cooperation Programs of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
The signed document envisages renovations and purchase of equipment worth nearly EUR 650,000. With these funds, the training laboratories of the State Educational Institution “Drohobych Higher Vocational School № 19” will be updated and equipped for the following professions:
- “Information processing and software operator",
- "Hairdresser (hairdresser-fashion designer)",
- "Manicurist",
- "Make-up artist".
Renovations are planned as well as the purchase of equipment worth around EUR 900,000 to upgrade and equip the training laboratories of the State Educational Institution "Stryi Vocational School № 34" for the following professions:
- "Locksmith for repair of wheeled vehicles and workshops for diagnostics and adjustment of electrical and electronic equipment of motor vehicles”,
- "Welder".
“Modern educational space should draw the attention of young people to working professions, as well as significantly improve the quality of training of students who have already chosen vocational education. For several years now, the Government of Ukraine has been systematically investing in the infrastructure of institutions through the establishment of training and practice centres. However, the support of the EU4Skills Program significantly accelerates the process of updating the material and technical base, and we are grateful to our European partners for this cooperation, said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Ihor Harbaruk.
Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, added: “It is important to develop vocational education as one of the components of building a successful country. Modern equipment and technology will help institutions to meet the today's challenges. Our joint responsibility is to create conditions for students to acquire qualitative practical skills that they will be able to apply after graduation. The development of vocational education will contribute to the economic growth of the region, as many domestic and foreign investors are interested in opening new enterprises and employing qualified professionals who must be prepared by vocational education institutions. We truly thank our European partners for helping us modernise our vocational education system.”
