Community social services: from the idea to its implementation
Representatives of selected communities of Odesa and Ternopil regions continue to increase their professional level through participation in the training "Social services in the community: from the idea to its implementation" within the ‘Community-based Social Service Delivery’ Project.
Today USIF together with the Ukrainian Catholic University Faculty of Health Sciences launched the second three-day training, which aims to explain the tasks and functions of social protection and services in the community under decentralization, to teach how to develop strategies for development of social services based on a comprehensive assessment of communities social needs and how to form budgets, finance social services in communities and involve communities representatives in resolving social issues. The training is attended by heads and specialists of structural units for social protection of Odesa and Ternopil regional state administrations, regional branches of the Fund for social protection of persons with disabilities as well as representatives of public organizations.
Participants will be able to get acquainted with the experience of social services provision in communities of Lithuania, Italy and England. During the training director of the public organization ‘Social Services of Yurbarkas’ Audrone Balciuniene and director of the Center of social services of the city of Sakjai Vilma Bielskiene will present their activities.
Apart from that, in the course of the training, representatives of the communities of Odess and Ternopil regions will visit the Lviv City Rehabilitation Center "Dzherelo", All-Ukrainian Jewish Charitable Foundation "Hesed-Arie", WIKI Library, Center for Social Support for Orphans, Children, Deprived of parental care and internally displaced persons and the ’Larch-Ark’ community to study practical experience of social services provision in Lviv community.
Background: ‘Community-based Social Service Delivery’ Project is being implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund with the support of the Japan Social Development Fund and the World Bank/Ukraine. Through implementation of the Project, local governments/authorities will be able to provide residents of amalgamated territorial communities of Odesa and Ternopil regions with priority social services.
