Housing for IDPs, improvement of social infrastructure and development of communities’ capacities

In December 2024 ‘Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development (USIF VI)’ Project came to an end. The Project was funded by the German Government through KfW and was implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund . The Project's goal was to provide internally displaced persons (IDPs) with housing through energy-efficient reconstruction of relevant buildings and to upgrade the infrastructure of schools and kindergartens in the communities hosting IDPs.
The Project was implemented in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as the areas of Luhansk and Donetsk regions controlled by the Government of Ukraine until 24 February 2022.
As a result of its implementation, 10 housing facilities for IDPs were arranged, 7 kindergartens and 4 schools were overhauled.
To improve the energy efficiency of the facilities and reduce energy consumption, the facades were insulated, the roofs were insulated and overhauled, old windows and doors were replaced with modern energy-efficient ones, heating, ventilation, water supply and sewage systems were upgraded, LED lamps, gas, water and electricity meters were installed.
The Project considered the needs of people with limited mobility. Therefore, ramps were installed at 8 facilities, and an electric lift was installed at one facility. Some apartments in 7 residential buildings were equipped with bathrooms for people with reduced mobility.
Five large-scale programmes were implemented to develop communities’ capacities, including trainings and consultations on such relevant topics as inclusion, development of social services, implementation of investment policy, legal support for IDPs and local authorities, facilitation of employment of IDPs and residents of the hosting communities.
USIF highly appreciates long term fruitful cooperation with the Government of Germany and the German Credit Institution for Reconstruction (KfW) and, on behalf of all Project beneficiaries, expresses sincere gratitude to Germany and its people for their continued assistance and support.
