A new pathology and anatomy department with a laboratory has been built in Borodyanka with use of funds, provided by the German Government
On June 30, 2026, Borodyanka Central District Hospital hosted the solemn opening of the pathology and anatomy department with a laboratory, which was build and equipped at the expense of grant funds of the German Government.
The department, equipped with modern specialized equipment, will provide appropriate conditions for conducting pathology and histological examinations and will contribute to improving the quality of medical services for more than 62 thousand residents of Borodyanka and neighboring communities.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kateryna Yesikova, a representative of the Economic Cooperation and Development Department of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine, Vitaliy Shmeriga, Deputy Head of the KfW Representative Office in Ukraine and Moldova; Andriy Laktionov, Deputy Executive Director of the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund; Tetyana Zemlyak, Director of the Health Department of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration; and Oleksandr Sakharuk, Borodyanka Mayor.
A building with a total area of over 400 m² was constructed to house the pathological and anatomy department and its laboratory. Modern utility systems, including ventilation and air conditioning, water supply, sewage, electricity, and heating were arranged there. The surrounding area was landscaped, with arrangement of access roads, a parking lot, pedestrian walkways, and greenery.
Special attention was paid to creating a barrier-free environment. The building is furnished with accessibility elements for people with limited mobility, tactile navigation, and adapted sanitary facilities.
The total cost of the construction works is over 41 million hryvnia.
The new department was equipped with modern specialized devices worth over 14 million hryvnia, including cold storage rooms for bodies, a stainless steel dissection and washing station, specialized tables, lifting equipment, air purification systems and a set of pathological anatomy instruments.
The laboratory was supplied with modern instruments for conducting histological studies, including an automated slide-staining station, an automated tissue processor, microtomes, a tissue cooling and embedding system, laboratory refrigerators, microscopes, and other high-tech equipment.
Borodyanka community also contributed to the department’s setup. With the support of the Borodyanka Town Council, the department was provided with furniture and additional necessary equipment. The works on arrangement of external water supply networks were performed as well.
The joint efforts of international partners and local authorities made it possible to create a modern medical facility that will serve the community’s residents for many years to come. This is an important step in the restoration and development of the community’s healthcare system.
The construction and equipping of the pathology department were carried out as part of ‘Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development. USIF VIII’ Project, which was funded by the German Federal Government through KfW and implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF).
