The renovated medical ward of the Slobozhanske Hospital has been opened
On 16 June 2026, the renovated medical ward of Slobozhanske Hospital (Chuhuiv district, Kharkiv region) was solemnly opened.
The opening ceremony was attended by Olena Logvinova, deputy head of Kharkiv Region Military Administration, Valery Dzyuba, Deputy Chairman of Kharkiv Regional Council, Mayor Dmytro Dikhtyar, Kateryna Senko, Deputy Director of the Health Department of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Serhiy Karatanov, Director of USIF’s First Regional Office, representatives of local government and local residents.
Using grant funds from the German Government provided through KfW, the hospital building underwent comprehensive modernisation: 560 m² of interior space was renovated, 950 m² of façades were insulated, and new utility systems, windows, doors, and a roof were installed. A 532 m² shelter was also arranged in the basement for staff and patients to be safe during an emergency.
The total cost of construction works exceeds 57 million hryvnia.
With installation of ramps, accessible restrooms, staff call buttons, tactile navigation and Braille signage, the renovated ward facility complies with universal design principles. The hospital is now fully accessible to people with disabilities and those with limited mobility.
The medical institution was also provided with modern medical equipment, including a mobile X-ray system, an ultrasound diagnostic system and electrocardiographs, worth approximately 6.7 million hryvnia. 17 doctors and members of the medical staff will now be able to see patients in modern, fully equipped examination rooms.
Some of the doctors and medical staff of Slobozhanske hospital participated in a training programme organised by the USIF in 2024–2025 and funded by a grant.
The local community also contributed: using the local budget funds, the second floor was renovated, the surrounding area was landscaped, and furniture was purchased. This is an example of how donor funds and local responsibility can work together for the benefit of the community.
The hospital in Slobozhanske serves more than 36,000 people, including those who have relocated due to the war. It provides local residents with access to healthcare close to home.
The modernisation was carried out as part of the ‘Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development. USIF VIII' Project, being funded by the German Federal Government through KfW and implemented by the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF).
