Three institutions of vocational education of Chernivtsi region to participate in EU4Skills programme

On 18 August 2021, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund, State Educational Institutions “Chernivtsi Higher Vocational School of Radio Electronics”, “Vocational School #8 in Chernivtsi”, “Higher Vocational School #24 in Zastavna” and the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration signed memoranda to modernise infrastructure of the institutions. This cooperation will take place in the framework of the project "EU4Skills: Modernisation of Vocational Education and Training Infrastructure in Ukraine”, which is a component of the large-scale EU programme "EU4Skills: Better Skills for Modern Ukraine". The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German State Development Bank KfW.

"The European Union continues to support the reform of Vocational Education and training in Ukraine. We are confident that participation in the EU4Skills programme will help make Vocational Education in the Chernivtsi region more attractive and prestigious for the successful career path of Ukrainian youth. After all, the future of the country as a whole depends on it,” said Frederik Coene, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.

According to the signed memorandum, the Chernivtsi Higher Vocational School of Radio Electronics plans to carry out repair works and purchase equipment worth EUR 1.1 million. With these funds, the server room and training workshops of the institution will be updated and equipped for the professions: "Electrician for repair and maintenance of power equipment", "Elevator electromechanic", "Electromechanician for repair and maintenance of computers", "Automotive repairman”.

Vocational School #8 in Chernivtsi will see repair work and purchase of equipment worth EUR 950,000. With these funds, training workshops for the professions will be updated and equipped: "Cook", "Confectioner", "Waiter", "Bartender", "Tailor", "Cutter", "Seamstress" and "Embroiderer".

According to the signed document, the Higher Vocational School #24 in Zastavna will receive agricultural machinery and equipment worth EUR 800,000 for training students in the following professions: "Tractor operator of agricultural (forestry) production", "Panel beater", "Locksmith for repair of wheeled vehicles", "Locksmith for repair of agricultural machinery and equipment."

"The quality of training of skilled workers depends on the facilities and modernisation of Vocational Education institutions. Therefore, the Government of Ukraine cares about updating equipment in institutions and promotes investment for these purposes. We support the implementation of various initiatives, including international ones, which contribute to the development of infrastructure in educational institutions," said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Ihor Harbaruk.

"The issue of Vocational Education reform is currently extremely important. Modernisation of this industry will provide additional tools for quality training and bring it to a completely different level of attention in society. We truly thank our European partners for helping us modernise our vocational education system! This year has been a good start to the pace of reform, but there is still much work to be done. I am sure that under such conditions there will definitely be enough skilled workers in Bukovyna,” added Serhiy Osachuk, head of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration.
