Year of war: EU4Skills continues to support Ukraine

The EU-funded "EU4Skills: Better Skills for Ukraine" programme continues to help Ukraine  build a modern vocational education infrastructure. Thus, after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the programme focused on emergency assistance to vocational education institutions and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

In total, EUR 700,000 were allocated from the project for emergency assistance to institutions of vocational and technical education and internally displaced persons. Thus, in the summer, 9 institutions received necessities, furniture and equipment.

Within the programme, on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and with the support of the German State Development Bank KfW, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund by the end of 2022 organised the next supply of support to IDPs who were accommodated in the dormitories of vocational institutions participating in the project.

In a new package from the European Union, the total amount of over UAH 4.5 million, the Nova Odesa Professional Agrarian Lyceum in Mykolaiv region received assistance: 75 tables and cabinets; 150 beds, mattresses, mattress toppers, pillows and blankets; 200 sets of bed linen; 200 kitchen and bath towels; 500 chairs. Also, 201 units of household appliances: boilers, washing machines, refrigerators, electric stoves, microwaves, slow cookers, electric kettles, electric heaters, irons and TVs.

“The EU4Skills project is, first of all, a project about education, and therefore about the future. That is why it is important for us to support Ukrainian civilians who are suffering from the Russian war of aggression today, so that tomorrow they can build a renewed education system. Because the quality education of the youth is one of the factors of a happy, successful and progressive state”, - said Frederik Coene, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.

”Strong support from the EU is very valuable and necessary. This only proves that we are doing everything right and victory is close. In general, it's already the third aid package within the framework of the project "EU4Skills". The project also helped institutions to renew the high-quality of the educational process, namely to purchase the necessary equipment, materials for laboratories, workshops, etc”, - said Iryna Shumik, Director General of the Directorate of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Science.
