26 medical institutions are modernised: USIF completes the large-scale medical project

At the end of 2024, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund completed implementation of the large-scale project to improve primary healthcare, funded by the German Government.
26 primary healthcare institutions, mainly in the communities of Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, were energy-efficiently modernised and provided with modern equipment under the Project, Shelters were arranged at three of them.
Most facilities have undergone extensive internal and external energy efficiency overhaul. Facades were insulated, roofs were insulated and refurbished, windows and doors were replaced with new energy-efficient ones, and metering and energy-efficient lighting were installed. Engineering and utility networks, including water and sewerage ones, were renovated as well. Heating and ventilation systems with radiator thermostats and recuperation appliances were installed.
To assess the effectiveness of the construction measures, an energy audit of the buildings before and after the renovation was conducted. Its results testified that 17 out of 26 facilities were renovated with an energy saving index of more than 25%.
Measures were also taken to ensure that people with disabilities and other groups of people with limited mobility have free access to healthcare facilities. To that end, ramps with tactile guides were installed in most facilities. Accessible entrances to outpatient clinics and offices, wide corridors, and handrails on stairs were arranged. Yellow tactile signs in Braille, pictograms and labels were set in to help visually impaired patients navigate in space. Special handrails, crutch holders, changing tables and staff call buttons were installed in the bathrooms.
All of this contributes to the independence and mobility of people with various disabilities.

As medical institutions are not able to function fully without modern equipment, repairs were only a part of the modernization activities. Hence, 1,360 pieces of medical equipment as well as various rapid tests and personal protective means for the sum, exceeding EUR 800 000, were purchased and delivered to 40 medical institutions within the Project. nearly. All of these tools will help doctors to detect diseases quickly and prescribe the necessary treatment as soon as possible.
In addition to that, the National Children's Hospital ‘Okhmatdyt’ and Kryvyi Rih Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 1 received medical equipment worth €1.66 million.

A professional development training programme for doctors, medical staff and health care managers was held, involving representatives from 22 medical institutions, covered by the Project.
From now on, patients of the renovated institutions will be able to receive medical services in comfortable conditions: in modern, rehabilitated premises with comfortable waiting areas and reception rooms with high-quality lighting and ergonomic furniture.
