EU invests in the modernisation of vocational education in Chernivtsi
The European Union, together with the German Development Bank KfW and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, has inaugurated two renovated vocational education institutions in Chernivtsi — the Higher Vocational School of Radio electronics and Vocational School No. 8. The works were carried out within the project “EU4Skills: Modernisation of Vocational Education and Training Infrastructure in Ukraine”, implemented through the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund (USIF).
The total EU investment in the modernisation of the two institutions amounted to over €3.5 million, of which approximately €2.46 million were allocated for construction works and more than €1 million — for the purchase of modern training equipment.
“The European Union remains strongly committed to supporting Ukraine in building a modern and resilient vocational education system. By investing in the rehabilitation of facilities and the provision of modern equipment, we help create learning environments that meet European standards and respond to the needs of local labour markets. These efforts contribute not only to improving the quality of education but also to strengthening Ukraine’s human capital and supporting its long-term recovery,” underlined Henrik Huitfeldt, Head of Section for Public Finance, Business Support, and Social Policies at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
At the Higher Vocational School of Radio electronics, training workshops for electricians, electromechanics, and radio engineers were modernised and equipped with modern stands, lifts, and STEM equipment.
At Vocational School No.8, a building for the training of cooks, confectioners, and tailors was renovated — with new laboratories, kitchens and sewing equipment, furniture, and computers.
“Thanks to the modernisation of these institutions, we have created proper learning conditions with state-of-the-art equipment for students, internally displaced persons, and adults. These institutions will become flagships of change in vocational education in the Chernivtsi region, and employers will gain reliable partners for upgrading the skills of their employees,” — noted Dmytro Zavgorodniy, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalisation.
“For the Chernivtsi region, this is a strategic investment in the future. We are grateful to the European Union for its support, thanks to which our educational institutions are becoming competitive, and young people are gaining the opportunity to learn, work, and develop their region,” — emphasised Ruslan Zaparanyuk, Head of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration.
