The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany visited IDP housing in Melitopol
On October 18, Tanya Bayer, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Donetsk (with a temporary office in Dnipro), paid a working visit to Melitopol. Together with the city administration, she visited a number of facilities, including those, being renovated by USIF with the use of grant funds, provided by the German Government through KfW Development Bank.
The Consul General inspected the construction of apartments for internally displaced persons and young professionals at Belyaeva Street, 16 and communicated with IDPs families, which had been provided with keys from renovated apartments in a house located at 6, Brive-la-Gaillarde street on St. Nicholas Day last year. At the moment, 14 persons, including 8 children, reside there. The residents of the apartments thanked the Consul for the financial support of the German Government, which gave them the opportunity to get comfortable housing in Melitopol.
Only a few years ago, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund renovated three building to be used as dormitories for IDPs in different parts of the city at the expense of the German Government and in cooperation with local authorities. More than 80 persons can reside there. 4 apartments in the house located at 6, Brive-la-Gaillarde str. were arranged for IDPs temporary residence.
Vasyl Burtnyk, Director USIF South-Eastern Regional Office, informed that work in that direction was ongoing. 24 families of internally displaced persons and 12 young professionals’ families would be settled soon in renovated apartments of the building at the address: 16, Belyaeva str.
Reconstruction of dormitories for IDPs was funded within "Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development. USIF V" Project while arrangement of apartments is being financed under "Promotion of Social Infrastructure Development. USIF VI" Project. Implementation of both projects became possible due to the German Government grant funds, provided through KfW.
It is also worth mentioning, that in the framework of the USIF VII and USIF VIII projects, which are also financed by German Government funds, provided through KfW, and being implemented by USIF, the infrastructure of several Melitopol medical institutions will be renovated.
