EU allocated 800,000 EUR for infrastructure modernisation of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Centre for Vocational Education as part of theEU4Skills programme

On 22 July 2021, the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund, the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Centre for Vocational Education, the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration and the Zaporizhzhia City Council signed a memorandum to modernise educational infrastructure of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Centre for Vocational Education. This cooperation will take place in the framework of the project "EU4Skills: Modernisation of Vocational Education and Training Infrastructure in Ukraine”, which is a component of the large-scale EU programme "EU4Skills: Better Skills for Modern Ukraine". The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German State Development Bank KfW.

“Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Centre for Vocational Education has been identified as one of the priority VET schools for modernisation. We believe that the institution's participation in the EU4Skills Programme will give an impetus for  development and enhancement of the institution's prestige, and will contribute to the training of qualified  professionals,  meeting the labor market needs ”, commented Frederik Coene, Head of Cooperation at the the European Union Delegation to Ukraine.

The signed document envisages plans to carry out renovations and purchase of equipment worth nearly EUR 800,000: the training laboratories at Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Centre for Vocational Education will be updated and equipped for training the following  specialists:

  • “Welder”;
  • “Locksmith-repairman”;
  • “Electrician for repair and maintenance of electrical equipment”;
  • “Cook”;
  • “Confectioner”;
  • “Electrician for repair and maintenance of computers”;
  • “Mechatronics technician”.

“For the comprehensive modernisation of Vocational Education, the Ministry of Education and Science works in various areas. In particular, the Ministry aims to update the material and technical base of institutions, improve the skills of teachers and ensure the quality of educational standards. Therefore,  the Ministry fully supports the implementation of international initiatives that contribute to achieving these goals. As vocational education is inextricably linked to the practical training of students, equipping workshops with new equipment is a very important component. We are grateful to the partners for the provided resources and hope for the successful implementation of the planned project," said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Ihor Harbaruk.

"Based on our experience of working with USIF, we are confident that the modernisation of the infrastructure of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic Center for Vocational Education will be an impetus for the revival and promotion of qualified vocational education, focused on meeting the needs of the labor market. For its part, the Zaporizhzhia authorities provide maximum assistance and full support in the implementation and expansion of your projects and programs in our region," commented Oleksandr Starukh, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration.

In December 2020, a memorandum was signed with another educational institution in the Zaporizhzhia region, the state Melitopol Higher Vocational School. Therefore, two educational facilities will be renovated in the region.
